Alcide Herveaux is a werewolf. He is good-looking, rough-around-the-edges, strong, protective, articulate and heroic. He works in construction with his father. He is helping Sookie find her kidnapped boyfriend, vampire Bill. He has also just got out of a bad relationship with Debbie Pelt.
Andy Bellefleur – Chris Bauer
Andy Bellefleur is a detective in Bon Temps. He feels that he is not respected nor appreciated by the towns’ people yet he is still much more pushy than others will tolerate and will not hesitate to use his authority to his advantage. Andy is also the cousin of Terry Bellefleur who is an employee at Merlotte’s
Arlene Fowler – Carrie Preston
Arlene Fowler is a friend of Sookie Stackhouse. She has two kids, and is on the lookout for her fourth husband. When she’s not with her kids or searching for a man, she is working at Merlotte’s, the local bar and grill
Bill Compton – Stephen Moyer
Bill Compton was born around 1835 and was turned into a vampire in 1865 after the Civil War. His full name is William Thomas Compton. He has recently returned to Bon Temps and lives an an old family home. Bill is romantically involved with Sookie Stackhouse. Bill also looks after new vampire fledgling Jessica who he was forced to turn and now lives with him.
Cooter AKA Coot – Grant Bowler
Coot is the leader of a biker gang called the F*ck You Crew. He is tough and in control. He also happens to be a werewolf.
Daphne – Ashley Jones
Daphne is a local from just a couple towns away. She is a new waitress on the Merlotte’s staff. Even though Daphne had a rocky start as a waitress, Sam is more than happy to have her around as extra help. Being a shapeshifter also helps make her more appealing to Sam. They become romantically involved. Daphne is actually working for the evil Mary Ann though, who ends up killing her in season 2.
Debbie Pelt – Brit Morgan
Debbie Pelt is the ex-girlfriend of Alcide. She is addicted to “V” and strung out, stubborn and a little crazy. She is also a were of some kind.
Eggs Benedict Talley – Mehcad Brooks
“Eggs” Benedict Talley is a border staying at Maryann’s house. After Tara’s drunken incident, Maryann takes her in and she begins living there. He draws her in with his sensitive guitar playing and presents her with her first chance at love and happiness. They become romantically involved. “Eggs” had a troubled past and is under Mary Ann’s spell and she forced him to do horrible things. He goes a little crazy and Jason ends up killing him to stop him from hurting someone else.
Eric Northman – Alexander Skarsgård
Eric Northman is a very old and powerful vampire who owns the bar Fangtasia, a popular hangout for vampires and fans of vampires. He is also the vampire sheriff of Area 5. Area 5 includes Bon Temps which is where Sookie Stackhouse and Bill Compton live. He is also attracted to Sookie which creates a bit of tension between him and Bill.
Franklin Mott – James Frain

Franklin Mott is a is tall, dark, handsome Vampire. Tara faces down some racist rednecks and he rushes in to help her. They feel a connection to one another and become involved. Franklin has a dark side though and may not be the good guy he appears to be.
Godric – Allan Hyde
Godric is a vampire who is over two thousand years old and has become weary of being immortal. Unlike most vampires, Godric no longer desires or enjoys the bloodshed, violence, and evil ways of the undead. Eric Northman is extremely loyal to Godric and was turned by him a thousand years ago. Godric takes his own life by walking into the sunlight to end is internal suffering.
Hoyt Fortenberry – Jim Parrack
Hoyt Fortenberry is very fun, loving, and gullible. He is a friend of Jason and also works with him on the road crew. Although he is very sweet, his mother is very nosy and controlling. In his spare time he enjoys hanging out at Merlotte’s. He is also romantically involved with newborn vampire Jessica.
Jason Stackhouse – Ryan Kwanten
Jason Stackhouse is the older brother of Sookie Stackhouse. He works on a road crew during the day and is a ladies man at night. Because of his country charms, good looks, and love of women, Jason is the center of much gossip in Bon Temps. Although attractive, he isn’t that bright and is quite impulsive which puts him in many difficult situations.
Jessica Hamby – Deborah Ann Woll
Jessica Hamby is a newborn vampire that is only 17 years old. She is the result of Bill Compton having saved Sookie from Longshadow. Eric Northman and the other elders made him turn her into a vampire as punishment for murdering a fellow vampire. Although this teared her away from her home life, she is learning to mainstream rather well. She is just like any other 17 year old girl, stubborn and temperamental, which makes her a dangerous new vampire. She is romantically involved with Hoyt.
Lafayette Reynolds – Nelsan Ellis
Lafayette Reynolds is the flamboyant and outgoing cousin of Tara Thornton. An entrepreneur, Lafayette wears many hats. He is a cook at Merlotte’s, a male prostitute and a drug dealer who sells “V”, vampire blood. In the small town of Bon Temps, he stands out due to his love of makeup, women’s clothing, and men
Lettie Mae Thornton – Adina Porter
Lettie Mae Thornton is Tara’s mother. She has spent most of her life as an alcoholic, but now is clean and sober and a devout member of the church, thanks to an “Exorcism” she had to remove the demon living inside her.
Lorena – Mariana Klaveno
Lorena is the wife of a Civil War soldier. She is very lonely and welcomes Bill’s company so much that when he tries to leave, she drains his blood and turns him into a vampire. Because she is his maker, he is forced to stay with her until he’s learned the ways of his new lifestyle. Even though Bill is on his own now she still maintains a small hold on him.
Pam – Kristin Bauer van Straten
Pam is the co-owner of a the vampire bar Fangtasia in Shreveport. Vampire Eric Northman is the other owner and also Pam’s maker. She is Eric’s right hand. She is smart, strong and fashionable. She has an odd sense of humor and is a good leader. She is not to fond of Bill though and doesn’t like Eric’s interest in Sookie.
Queen Sophie-Anne LeClerq – Evan Rachel Wood
Sophie-Anne is the Vampire Queen of Louisiana. She is a powerful, glamorous, bisexual, beautiful, intelligent, shrewd, and quite possibly insane woman.
Russell Edgington – Denis O’Hare
Russell Edgington is the Vampire King of Mississippi. He is over 2,000 years old. He has been with his vampire boyfriend, Talbot, for 700 years. He has some kind of a connection to Bill Compton.
Sam Merlotte – Sam Trammell
Sam Merlotte is the owner of Merlotte’s, a bar and grill where Sookie Stackhouse works as a waitress. Sam has a romantic interest in Sookie, but they continue to just remain good friends. He does have a dark secret. Sam Merlotte is a shapeshifter and is able to change forms at will. His favorite form is of a collie, but can change into almost any animal. Much like werewolves, Sam feels the affects of a full moon and the need to change.
Sheriff Bud Dearborne – William Sanderson
Sheriff Bud Dearborne is the friendly lawman of Bon Temps. He is well liked and respected and tries to be fair with everyone. Recently, life has been difficult for the sheriff since vampires came out of the closet and killers and supernatural creatures seem to be drawn to Bon Temps.
Sookie Stackhouse – Anna Paquin
Sookie Stackhouse is a very special waitress at Merlotte’s Bar and Grille. She is a telepath that can hear your thoughts and dates the vampire, Bill Compton. She lives in Bon Temps, La and was raised by her grandmother after her parents were killed in a flash flood. This strong willed girl has one brother, Jason, and her best friend is Tara Thornton. Since she started dating Bill her life has been a world of vampires and more and she is doing her best to navigate her way through it.
Talbot – Theo Alexander
Talbot is a vampire who has been the boyfriend of Russell Edgington, the Vampire King of Mississippi, for around 700 years. He is an extremely good looking man with a sarcastic personality.
Terry Bellefleur – Todd Lowe
Terry Bellefleur is a very kind person. A friend of Sookie’s, he is always willing to help out Sookie and Sam when they need him. He is a cook at Merlottes Bar and Grill. He is tough and can be considered an outdoors man. Terry is an Iraq War Veteran and because of this he suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He cannot be forced to interact with others for too long because he becomes unstable. Terry is also the cousin of Andy and Portia Bellefleur. He is also romantically involved with Arlene.
Tommy Mickens – Marshall Allman
Tommy Mickens is Sam Merlotte’s long lost half-brother. Like Sam, he may also be a shifter. He works at a tire store in Arkansas. Tommy’s family is known for having a bad reputation.
